Sonograms

So far, Erin has had at least six sonograms, if not more. This seems to be way higher than average - another couple I spoke with only had one, but the average seems to be about two or three. I’m not sure there’s really a solid reason why she’s had so many sonograms, it’s certainly not because the doctors feel that there is anything wrong with our baby (other than being uncooperative during the “anatomical” sonogram, during which he would only show us his back and kept squirming out of view, which required Erin to return another day for another sonogram to hopefully get a better look at him).

Here are two sonograms that were taken during week 20 of Erin’s pregnancy. There are a bunch more up in the Sonograms section of our photo gallery. I don’t think Erin is scheduled to receive any more sonograms, but I hope we get at least one more before he’s born - it’s a real treat to get to see our baby, to watch him wiggle, squirm and kick. We’ve seen his profile enough times now that I think I could pick him out of a lineup of a few dozen other babies. I’m sure our mental image is way off from reality, but regardless of how he looks when he’s born, we’ll love him all the same.

3D sonogram taken during Week 20 of Erin’s pregnancy. It’s a little hard to tell what you’re looking at in this picture - it’s a 3/4 profile view. You can see his little nose, cheeks, eyes and lips. You can also see what appears to be a giant hole in his head, but rest assured, it’s just an artifact of the scanning process. Our little boy’s head is completely intact!
